Overview

This category honours outstanding photojournalism and storytelling photography work that showcases issues related to food sustainability. Participants can enter a photograph or a photo series on key themes or issues related to food sustainability. Entries will be judged according to effective use of photography, overall impact, composition, artistic merit and originality.

Entry Guidelines

This category is open to professional staff photojournalists, freelancers, and individuals.

All entries should focus on stories and issues around the theme of food sustainability.

Individuals may submit a maximum of one entry per category.

Materials entered under the published photojournalism category must have been previously published or distributed on news sites, newspapers, magazines, or an established website or blog. All photographs entered for this category must have been published, distributed or broadcasted between May 2016 and May 2017.

The photo or series of photos submitted for this category may not be digitally altered significantly beyond standard optimisation, as in cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, colour and contrast.

All photos submitted must be captioned and details of the device used to capture them must be included.

All entries must be submitted in English (or translated into English).

A professional reference contact or reference letter is mandatory.

Entries can be submitted from 9th January 2017 to 31st May 2017 midnight (London time).

The Food Sustainability Media Awards administrators and judging panel will have the final authority to determine eligibility of an entry.

For each of the Award’s three categories, both published and unpublished work can be submitted. Published and unpublished entries will be judged separately.

In addition, finalists in all three categories both published and unpublished will be put forward for the Best of the Web Award. The winner of this award will be chosen by the public.

Written Journalism

This category recognises excellence in written journalism for a news/feature article published in print or online that addresses topics, stories or issues related to food sustainability through distinctive, accurate and original reporting.

This category honours exceptional video content that sheds light on stories related to food sustainability through visual storytelling and/or investigative journalism and creative use of video. Entries will be judged on their quality, impact, innovation and creativity.
