This category honours excellence in video (including animations), photography and audio content that sheds light on stories related to food sustainability. This category aims to recognise exceptional efforts in in-depth visual and audio storytelling and creative and original use of a chosen medium. Entries will be judged on their coherence and relevance, depth and quality of reporting and originality and creativity.
Applications for the 2018 Award cycle are now closed. Finalists’ work will be made public on the website in October. To stay informed about Award news, please register your interest below.
This category is open to professional staff journalists, freelancers, bloggers and individuals.
All entries should focus on stories and issues around the theme of food sustainability.
Individuals may submit a maximum of one entry per category.
Materials entered under this category must have been previously distributed, published, broadcasted or screened by a news website, newspaper, magazine, TV channel, audio channel (e.g. radio, podcast), film festival (or event) or an established website or blog.
Entrants must submit their individual and personal work.
All entries must be submitted in English (or translated into English).
Only one single video or audio submission can be entered for this category. For photography submissions, both single pictures and photography series will be accepted as entries. Eligible video submissions include animations.
All entries must be submitted with a description, including details of the device used to capture them for video and photography submissions. All pictures in a photography series must also be individually captioned.
Photography entries must not be digitally altered significantly beyond standard optimisation, as in cropping, adjustments to exposure, colour and contrast. There should be no additions or deletions to original pictures and they should not mislead the viewer by manipulating of the tonal and colour balance to disguise any elements of an image or to change the context.
The suggested length of video and audio submissions is no longer than 20 minutes. Photography series should feature no more than 20 individual pictures.
The Food Sustainability Media Awards administrators and judging panel will have the final authority to determine eligibility of an entry.
For the Award’s two categories, both published and unpublished work can be submitted. Published and unpublished entries are judged separately.
In addition, published and unpublished finalists in both categories are put forward for the Best of the Web Award. The winner of this award is chosen by the public.
